New Delhi: The New Delhi-based Ta’awun Trust has made an appeal for cooperation with it in its relief and rehabilitation projects for the cyclone-affected people of West Bengal. The group plans to distribute food grains, open medical camps and build houses for the affected people.
The city of Kolkata and some other districts in West Bengal were worst affected by the cyclone on May 25, 2009. The death toll shot up to 150. Fresh areas in the north were reeling under the impact of the cyclone’s after-effects. More than 2.2 million people have been affected. The rescue operations in North and South 24 Parganas districts are continuing. More than one lac people have lost their homes. They have been put up in 109 relief camps. Around 61,000 houses have been destroyed and 132 thousand partially damaged, a survey of the group said.
A team of the Ta’awun Trust has visited some of the worst-hit areas of 24 Parganas North and South districts. The Ta’awun Trust has worked for the cause of humanity in the past in time of natural and other calamities like flood, earthquake, cyclone, tsunami and communal riots, irrespective of religion, caste, colour or creed. For this work, the group has constituted a number of teams of experienced people to render the work of relief and rehabilitation.
The group has got the facilities of FCRA (Foreign Contribution and Regulatory Act) for foreign donors and 80G for income tax exemption for Indian donors.
(1) Food packets for 1000 families
The packet will contain ready-to-eat food, milk-powder, biscuits, bread, water etc.
Cost of each packet 500/- INR
Cost of 1000 packets 500 x 1000 = 500,000/-
(2) Food grain for 1000 families
The packet will contain rice, flour, pulses, mustard oil, torch, match box

(3) Medical Camps
Cost of each medical camp 150,000/- INR
Cost of two medical camps 150,000 x 2 = 300,000/-
(4) Rehabilitation for 100 families
Cost of each house 15000/- INR
Cost of 1000 packets 15000 x 100 = 1,500,000/-
Total cost of projects:
2,800,000 INR (twenty eight hundred thousand only)
