A copy of the 109-year-old magazine was unveiled at the EmTech India 2009, a two-day conference on emerging technologies, jointly organised by the MIT and technology publisher CyberMedia.

Technology Review, which traces its genesis to the cradle of technological innovation MIT, should be launched in a country that prides itself on being the original knowledge nation, M.G.K. Menon, advisor with the Indian Space Research Organisation, said at the event.

The magazine, however, will not hit the stands before June, CyberMedia chairman Pradeep Gupta said.

Added Jason Pontin, editor-in-chief and publisher of MIT Technology Review: “The launch of the India edition of the magazine signals the growing influence of the country as a knowledge powerhouse. However, it’s too early for the Indian edition to show a definite character and style of its own.”

“India is a leading provider of emerging technology. I want to be the first person to show to the world what’s coming out of Indian labs,” Pontin added.
