New Delhi : The second phase of weapon testing on the indigenous light combat aircraft (LCA) Tejas has begun successfully in the northwestern sector with the jet scoring a direct hit on target, an official said Thursday.
The focus of the current phase of testing, being held at an airbase in the northwestern sector, is on “safe separation” – or the weapon leaving the jet safely – and accuracy of weapon delivery.
“The mood of the various organisations involved in the trial is upbeat as information has just come in that Tejas scored a direct hit on the target in the first test sortie itself,” a senior official at the Defence Research and Development Organisation said, adding, “the trials are planned for two weeks’ duration”.
The test team comprising specialists of the Aeronautical Development Agency, Indian Air Force and Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. have gathered at the trial location where the National Flight Test Centre is conducting the flight-test.
“The aircraft designers and other specialists are able to monitor the vital parameters of the jet,” the official added.
