New Delhi: The Vice Chancellor of the Jawaharlal Nehru University, B.B. Bhattacharya, has constituted a five-member committee to address the issue of rustication of five students including three JNU Students’ Union leaders.
The students who were sitting on indefinite hunger strike since February 26 to protest against the rustication have called off the strike. On an appeal by the teaching community, the students decided to call off the strike. They were rusticated after they allegedly physically stopped the university authorities from selling admission forms and prospectus. The students union had long been demanding lowering the prices admission forms and prospectus but in vain.
Nine students including JNUSU president Sandeep Singh had begun the strike. Two of them were removed on March 4 after their condition deteriorated.
