New Delhi, March 9 (IANS) Computer engineer Mohammed Mansoor Asghar Peerbhoy, a suspected member of the Indian Mujahideen (IM) terror outfit who had allegedly sent emails to media houses about the bombings across the country, was Monday remanded to seven days’ police custody by a Delhi court.
Peerbhoy was brought to the capital by the Delhi Police Special Cell Feb 28 for his alleged role in the Sep 13 serial blasts here last year and remanded in police custody.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja allowed the police plea seeking seven days’ fresh custodial interrogation of Peerbhoy.
Public Prosecutor Rajeev Mohan sought police remand of the accused, saying he was to be taken to Mumbai and Hyderabad to identify the places of training imparted to other accused for carrying out terror activities across the country.
He also said that Peerbhoy was to be confronted with recoveries made by the Mumbai Police following his arrest in September last year.
According to police, Peerbhoy, 31, alleged head of the IM media cell, was accused of sending emails minutes before the serial blasts in Delhi and Ahmedabad.
Peerbhoy’s revelations are expected to give the police insights into the role of suspected IM plotters Riyaz Bhatkal, his brother Iqbal and Amir Reza Khan, all of whom are absconding.
Peerbhoy worked with a multinational software company in Pune and earned an annual salary of Rs.1.9 million.
The Sep 13 Delhi serial bombings left 27 people dead, while the July 26 Ahmedabad blasts left more than 55 people dead.
