The lecturer also “repeatedly demanded during philosophy studies in the Far Eastern state college… that the students change their religious ideas to atheistic ones,” the local prosecutor’s office said.

He is also reported to have stated that “believers can’t live in normal society and should stay at home and exercise their beliefs there”. Reports also say he called religious students “schizophrenics” and attempted to force them to leave his lectures.

The lecturer, who was charged with violating the students’ rights, faces up to five years in prison if found guilty.
