BJP names candidates for 59 Lok Sabha seats

New Delhi : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Friday released its list of candidates for 59 Lok Sabha constituencies from Kerala, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Punjab, Sikkim, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh.

The BJP’s central election committee Friday met under the chairmanship of party president Rajnath Singh. The party’s prime ministerial candidate L.K. Advani also attended the meeting.

The party announced 24 candidates for West Bengal, five for Kerala, seven in Orissa, eight in Andhra Pradesh and one each in Punjab and Sikkim, a statement released by the BJP said.

“Eight candidates for Madhya Pradesh and five for Haryana were also announced today (Friday),” the statement added.

The BJP nominee for the Bhind seat in Madhya Pradesh is Ashok Argal, who had alleged that he was given money by Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh to vote in favour of Manmohan Singh government during the trust vote last year.

The elections to the 15th Lok Sabha will be held April 16-May 13 in five phases. The counting of votes will take place May 16.
