Panaji : The radio is an effective social tool and the Goa Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to make good use of that. It has tied up with Big 92.7 FM channel to reach out to the state’s one million voters for the Lok Sabha polls.
Former union minister Shripad Naik, the party candidate from North Goa, Saturday said the multi-lingual campaign would focus on the ills of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government and was primarily aimed at conditioning the electorate to ‘Think Change’.
North Goa and South Goa are the two parliamentary constituencies in Goa.
Naik, however, was not willing to comment on the amount of money the party would spend on the FM radio campaign.
“The budget is well within the financial limits prescribed by the Election Commission,” Naik said.
Richard Dias, station head of Big 92.7 FM in Goa, said the creative campaign would be staggered in three phases beginning next month.
“The first phase would involve telling the listeners about the current scenario in the country. The second phase would stress on the need for a change at the top, and the third would urge them to go ahead and vote,” Dias said, adding that every political ad would have to be cleared by the Chief Electoral Officer in Goa before being broadcast.
“We have prepared our creatives on the basis of ideas and suggestions which were given to us by the BJP,” Dias said, adding he had also pitched a campaign strategy to the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee. “We are in it for the business,” he said.
“Radio is a nascent medium when it comes to political campaigning but an effective one. Big 92.7 FM has a reach of nearly 500,000 radio listeners in Goa,” he said.
