Hasina pledges special package for trade, industry

Dhaka : Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has renewed her government’s pledge for “a special package” to help the country’s trade and industry in the wake of global recession.

She told a meeting of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) to diversify their products and markets to cope with the situation, New Age newspaper said Monday.

“The government is closely watching the global market developments. We will provide all possible supports to continue exports and local productions,” an FBCCI director quoted the PM as saying.

The FBCCI has sought a Taka 60 billion ($900 million approx.) package, The Daily Star said.

“We proposed a Tk 6,000 crore bailout package to deal with the economic recession. We have also asked the government to take initiatives to help boost the country’s economy,” FBCCI President Annisul Huq told reporters.
