Ghaziabad : An 18-year-old girl was killed and four of her classmates were injured when the autorickshaw they were riding in was hit by a private bus coming from the opposite direction Friday, the police said.
The girls were on their way to Adhyatmik Nagar to appear in their Class 12 board exam.
“Six girls were on way to their school in an auto rickshaw. As they reached the Hapur intersection at about 6.30 a.m., a private bus coming from ALT Centre hit their auto from the opposite direction,” a police officer said.
He said Lakshmi died on the spot while Kanchan and Preeti were rushed to the Sarvodaya Hospital in Kavi Nagar. A boy who boarded the same auto was also brought to the hospital in a serious condition.
However, three other girls – Monika, Sonia and Nisha – managed to go to the school with injuries and appeared in their exam.
“We were going for our exam. It was our fifth paper today (Friday) that was to start at 7.30 a.m. Since we all came from the same area, we took an auto and started early from house so that we could revise the syllabus once. As our auto reached Hapur chungi, a bus coming from opposite side rammed into us,” Kanchan told IANS.
“My whole year has gone. I missed an exam for which I was well prepared. I have also lost my friend Lakshmi,” she added.
The auto driver and the bus driver fled the spot.
“We have seized the bus and the auto, and are trying to nab the drivers. We are looking for them,” the police officer said.
