New Delhi : They mushroomed in numbers providing security guards to offices and housing societies, upgraded technology and were increasingly engaged by people for various purposes that ranged from watch on spouses, children to report on character of a would be son-in-law.
With increased demand, thanks to terror attacks, private security agencies are eying a share in the huge money spent by political parties and candidates and are even smelling success.
“We have been engaged in assessment exercises, where our mandate is to assess the winnability of a ticket aspirant versus others,” says Rituraj, COO, Security and Intelligence Services. The charges vary from case to case, he says.
“The fact is that information gathered through party apparatus is coloured. Parties, therefore, prefer independent data based assessments for decision making,” he says.
Main political parties, however, say they do not depend on security agencies in their selection process.
Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Vice-President of BJP, says assessments of party cadre are taken into account for selection process.
“We depend on feedback from our party cadres and then select candidates but in some constituencies, help of private agencies is taken for an independent assessment,” Naqvi says.
