Ranchi : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wednesday demanded the removal of Jharkhand Governor Syed Sibte Razi accusing him of violating the model code of conduct.
“We have faxed a letter to President Pratibha Patil and the Election Commission demanding removal of the governor, who is violating the model code of conduct,” Raghubar Das, state BJP president, told reporters.
“After the president issued the notification for the first phase of the elections, the advisory committee of the governor hiked the Dearness Allowance (DA) of the state government employees by six percent,” Das said.
“The governor is functioning as a Congress agent,” the BJP leader alleged.
“Politicians whether they are ruling the state or in opposition come under the purview of the model code. Governor should also be brought under the purview,” he said.
Jharkhand is under president’s rule and the governor performs the administrative functions.
Das also lashed out at the state administration for what he said deteriorating law and order situation.
“People are killed, journalists roughed up by the police. Under the present governor, there cannot be a free and fair election in the stare. Razi should be removed,” he said.
