Lucknow: The Allahabad High Court Wednesday denied permission to Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) nominee and gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari to file his nomination to contest the Lok Sabha polls.
Responding to Ansari’s application, the court said that since he was under judicial custody his voting rights remain automatically suspended.
“Therefore, there is no question of granting him permission to go and file the nomination for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls,” the court observed in its order.
Ansari is lodged in Ghazipur jail for the murder of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Krishnanand Rai. Ansari is facing over two dozen criminal cases including those of murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping, extortion, loot and land grabbing.
