Puducherry: Stating that he doesn’t “carry hate and anger”, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi said Wednesday that he was “surprised” by his cousin Varun Gandhi’s reported inflammatory campaign speeches.
“I am surprised by his views. Life is full of surprises,” Rahul Gandhi said at a press conference here.
He said Varun Gandhi’s speeches were his “personal views”.
“Those are his views. I have my views. I don’t carry hate and anger with me. Hatred and anger blind you,” Rahul Gandhi said, when asked to respond to the alleged communally charged speeches made by Varun Gandhi during his campaign as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate in Pilibhit.
Rahul Gandhi and Varun Gandhi are the grandsons of former Indian prime minister Indira Gandhi.
