New Delhi: The polling process in a slum area of North West Delhi Lok Sabha constituency, where over 1,300 shanties were gutted in fire a fortnight ago, will be videographed to prevent bogus voting on May 7, Delhi’s chief electoral officer (CEO) Tuesday said.
“To prevent bogus voting, proper arrangements have been made to videograph the process,” Satbir Silas Bedi said.
According to the poll panel, more than 1,000 electors residing in jhuggis (shanties) in North West Delhi parliamentary constituency lost their identity proof in the fire which broke out a fortnight ago. The returning officer has been told to take action to enable these voters cast their ballot on poll day.
A fortnight ago, over 1,300 shanties were gutted in a fire, leading to mass unrest in the area. Angry residents clashed with the police and vandalised police vehicles. The police had to resort to a baton-charge and lob tear gas shells to control the situation.
