Chennai : The counting of votes cast for the 15th Lok Sabha polls began at 8 a.m. Saturday in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
In the fray are 823 candidates, of which 41 are women, fighting for 39 seats in Tamil Nadu; 28 are contesting for the lone seat in Puducherry.
The results are expected around noon.
As per early trends Congress candidate for the Sivaganga Parliamentary constituency P. Chidambaram, A.K.S. Vijayan of DMK contesting from Nagapattinam, V. Tamilzharasi of AIADMK from Namakkal have registered initial leads.
