“The working committee would discuss the party’s future course of action, including government formation, party general secretary Rahul Gandhi’s role and the issues related to support from other parties,” a Congress leader close to party president Sonia Gandhi told IANS.

The meeting would be held at 4.30 p.m. at the All India Congress Committee headquarters in the capital.

Confounding all predictions, the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) has won 262 seats, just 10 short of the magic halfway mark of 272. The Congress’ individual tally is 205.

In Andhra Pradesh, the Congress party bagged 157 seats in the 294-member assembly and 33 out of 42 Lok Sabha seats without any alliance.

In the Orissa assembly polls, the Congress did not do well in the assembly elections, securing less than 30 of the total 147 seats, but won six of the state’s 21 Lok Sabha seats.
