Islamabad: Pakistani clerics said Sunday suicide bombings and beheadings carried out by the Taliban is un-Islamic and urged Islamic nations to help Islamabad in the fight against militants.
Sarfaraz Naeemi, ulema of Ahle-Sunnat, said Taliban’s agenda is in favour of Pakistan’s enemies and against Islam. He also called for a decisive action against the militants.
Naeemi, who was addressing a conference, called on the Organisation of the Islamic Countries (OIC) to help the thousands of civilians displaced in the military conflict in Swat and other parts of the Malakand region.
He said the clergy should demonstrate unity among their ranks to thwart the conspiracies of Taliban. He also demanded that the government should reject the American agenda of controlling religious groups.
Sarwat Ejaz Qadri, one of the participants at the conference, said the Taliban have tarnished the image of Sharia (Islamic law) across the world. All muslims needed to stand up against the militants, he said, Geo TV reported Sunday.
Another participant called for trial of Pakistani Taliban chief Sufi Muhammad on charges of mutiny. He criticised the establishment for patronising the militants for almost three decades.
The participants also adopted a resolution backing the government in Islamabad. They said Sharia enforced at gunpoint would not be accepted, and the attacks on ulemas, sacred places and shrines by the Taliban should stop.
