“Generally we like peace with our neighbours. We can’t change our neighbours. We stand ready to extend hand of peace and friendship. But Pakistan must take credible action to dismantle infrastructure of terrorism,” Krishna told reporters in his first news conference after being named external affairs minister earlier in the day.

Asked if India would resume talks with India, Krishna said: “That has hit the stumbling block. It is for Pakistan to take necessary steps.”

The former Karnataka chief minister took charge of the foreign ministry as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh allotted portfolios to six of his 19 cabinet ministers, a day after taking oath at the head of a new Congress-led government.
