“Campus Front of India is neo-social student’s movement which aims to empower the campuses by developing a new generation of activists. Campus front of India will be in the forefront in leading students to take up social issues, strive for the oppressed sections of the society and empower the campuses to mark a new dawn in the history of Students Activism,” said A. Mohamed Yusuff, General Convenor of the Campus Front.

The formal launch program of the Campus Front will be addressed by several leaders of Popular Front of India and Social Democratic Party of India including E.M. Abdur Rahiman, Chairman, PFI, and A. Saeed, General Secretary, SDPI.

Talking to TwoCircles.net, Mohamed Yusuff denied that Campus Front will be a students wing of Popular Front but admitted that several students groups were working in the South India under the patronage of these organizations and now need was felt to form a national students group.

“Campus Front of India was formed as a result of the series of discussions held by student organizations which were active in taking up social issues in various parts of the country,” he said.

“Students are considered as an important section which can play a crucial role in building the society. Students are the privileged section of the society who has the power of education, vision and knowledge with them which is denied to most of the marginalized sections of the society. Unfortunately we have seen a decline in student activism among students for the last few decades. Students movements once considered one of the most powerful catalyst of any cause have now turned into mere pawns of their political mentors. In this critical juncture Campus Front will strive for the revival of student’s power and motivate students to lead social movements,” he added.

The official launch of Campus Front will be held at the National Students Convention on 7th November at the auditorium of India International Centre, New Delhi. Delegates from various states will be present in the convention.

The first session will be business session where state and National Committees will be elected. In the afternoon session, there will be a seminar on the theme “Students for Social Change”. Guest speakers for the seminar will be Prof. S.A.R. Geelani – Delhi University, Prof. Tanikha Sarkar – Jawaharlal Nehru University, Prof. Shamsul Islam – Delhi University, New Delhi, Prof. P. Koya – Chief Editor, Thejas Daily, Kerala, and Sandeep Singh – President, JNU Students Union, New Delhi.
