The unseemly incident occurred after the third day’s play of the Ranji Trophy Elite group match between Bengal and Baroda when Eden’s grand old curator Prabir Mukherjee objected to Irfan giving bytes to a television channel inside the ground.

As Mukherjee asked Irfan to move out of the ground, the cricketer got agitated. “Why should I go out? What is your problem?” he asked.

Mukherjee then lost his cool and sternly told Irfan that as an international cricketer he should know the rules.

An infuriated Irfan then menacingly charged towards Mukerhee but was stopped in time by his brother Yusuf and Baroda officials.

Later, Yusuf and team coach Paras Mhambrey apologised for Irfan’s behaviour.
