Kochi: The central and state governments should declare public holidays on 29th and 30th of November for Eid ul Azha, demanded the Muslim Educational and Cultural Association. The demand was raised in the state secretariat of the organisation held in Ernakulam.
The MECA also asked the government to distribute the payment of November to all the government servants of the state on 24, 25 and 26 of the month. The early payments should be made to all, disregarding religion and caste. The government should take immediate measures to fill the backlog in the state services through special recruitment. The Narendran Commission had found a backlog of 18,525 posts. Considering the difficulties of the half-crore employment-seekers who have been registered and the unofficial ban on new appointments, the government should take the matter seriously, the MECA added.
The organisation opined that the authorities concerned should take care to immediately put an end to the foul nature of insulting the Muslim community even after the DGP has stated that the accusations in the name of ‘love jihad’ were baseless.
