New Delhi: As a measure of wider consultation process the Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis yesterday called a meeting of office bearers of various non-teaching staff associations including Non-teaching Staff Association, Technical Staff Association, AMU Employees Union and Fourth Grade Employees Union to discuss issues relating to the present situation prevailing in the University.
Prof. Azis appealed to them to extend their full cooperation in maintaining peace and conducive atmosphere in the campus before the re-opening of the University. The Vice Chancellor urged the office bearers of the non-teaching staff associations to present their suggestions for promoting the best of the University and assured that their suggestions will be given due consideration.
AMU Registrar Prof. V. K. Abdul Jaleel explained the series of events that took place after the murder of a student, Shahnawaz Alam over a parking row at a restaurant near the Aligarh railway station on October 25, 2009.
The meeting was attended by AMU Court Members Mr. Raees Ahmad, Mr. Rashid Mustafa and Ms. Ashiya along with the General Secretary of Employees’ Association Mr. Shamim Akhtar, former Court Member Mr. Qaseem Ahmad, President of Fourth Grade Employees’ Union Mr. Zaki Ahmad and former Secretary Mr. Irshad Ahmad.
The employees attending the meeting welcomed the process of dialogue initiated by the Vice Chancellor to address all the issues relating to the University. They said that their future is associated with this great institution and they would never like any chaos in the campus bringing disrespect to the University. They wished that the University should be run like an educational institution and not like an unruly mass where the future of students and the honour of the University are always at stake.
