Lucknow : A 12-year-old girl was allegedly beaten by a teacher in an Uttar Pradesh’s state-run school as she opposed his drinking liquor in the classroom, police said Thursday.
The Class 7 girl of the Hanumantpur upper primary school in Etawah district, some 300 km from Lucknow, is undergoing treatment in hospital. She was beaten Wednesday by teacher Munna Lal Tiwari, who is absconding.
“A case against the teacher has been registered for physically torturing the student. We have detained some staff members of the school to get some clues to trace the teacher,” Inspector J.P. Singh told reporters in Etawah.
The girl’s parents have told the police that Tiwari often consumed liquor inside the classroom and hurl abuses at the students.
According to them, on Wednesday, when Tiwari was about to drink in the class, the girl stood up and told him that she would complain to the school principal.
This irked Tiwari, who beat the girl and even banged her head against the wall several times.
