Speaking to reporters, Chief Secretary Sanjiv Srivastava, who also heads the state home department, said: “I will call for a report from the police department. We’ll see what they have to say.”

Srivastava said the enquiry process was delayed because he was out of station when the controversial party by four superintendents of police and other senior police officers was reported in the media.

The officers partying on board offshore casino vessel M.V. Casino Royale had created a stir after they locked themselves up in a bar room to avoid a media contingent who were invited on board for a press conference.

The controversy later snowballed after the state DGP Bhimsain Bassi equated visiting casinos to visiting temples and churches, while justifying his officers’ visit to the casino.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the main opposition party, has already demanded removal of the DGP for his insensitive remarks.
