In this interview, on the death anniversary (18th November) of Allama Shibli Nomani, Maulana Umairus Siddique Nadvi not only talks in detail about his long association with the Academy but also elaborates the missionary zeal with which people work here and the present efforts of the new Secretary/Director Professor Ishtiaq Ahmad Zilli.

Maulana Umair nicely analyses the background and nefarious design of maligning the name of a city like Azamgarh which perhaps is the only city which contributed so much in the development of art and culture and was at the forefront of the freedom struggle. He subtly lifts the veil over the international conspiracy behind the bogey of “terrorism” and the new world order. Maulana Umair suggests ways to combat this menace through owning media both print and electronic and through sustained campaign to spread the truth exposing malicious intention of forces opposed to Islam.

About Maulana Umairus Siddique Nadvi:

He is the senior most Rafeeque of Darul Musannefin Shibli Academy, Azamgarh. He is also the joint editor of Academy’s renowned literary journal Maa’rif that is being brought out every month regularly since 1916. Maulana Umair studied in Nadwatul Ulama, Lucknow and joined Shibli Academy in 1976 at a time when Syed Sabahuddin Abdur Rahman was the Secretary. In fact, Sabahuddin Saheb got impressed with an article Maulana Umair wrote about Shah Moinuddin Nadvi and asked Maulana Umair to join the Academy. Maulana Umair’s father was instrumental in facilitating association of young Umair with the renowned seat of learning established and nurtured by Allama Shibli Nomani and his illustrious disciple Maulana Syed Sulaiman Nadvi – Shibli Academy. Maulana Abdus Salam Qidwai, Maulana Ziauddin Islahi and Maulana Naim Siddiqui were in the Academy to inspire and guide young Umairus Siddique Nadvi. After the sad demise of Syed Sabahuddin Abdur Rahman in a road accident in Lucknow (1987), Syed Shahabuddin Dasnavi took over as Secretary and Maulana Ziauddin Islahi was entrusted with the editorship of Maa’rif. Maulana Ziauddin entrusted the important work of reviewing latest publications (which he was looking after) to Maulana Umairus Siddique Nadvi, a work he continues to do since 1987.
