New Delhi : India and Uganda will co-operate “more vigorously” in the agriculture and fisheries sector, Minister of State for Agriculture K.V. Thomas said here Thursday.
After meeting an official delegation led by his Ugandan counterpart, Rwamirama K. Bright, Thomas said India has agreed to provide agricultural technology to the African nation.
“India and Uganda had inked an agreement on agriculture in 2007. But the agreed matters could not be taken forward vigorously. So, both the sides today agreed on a full-fledged implementation of the 2007 agreement,” the minister told reporters.
“Uganda is interested in importing agro machinery from India. Both the sides have agreed to share technology in fisheries sector also,” he said.
Thomas said the Ugandan government has assured that they would provide all assistance to the Indian business community, the largest international business community there, and their interests would be protected
The Indian community in Uganda, which left during Idi Amin’s rule, has returned to the African nation, the minister said.
The Ugandan government has also expressed interest in co-operating with India in tourism and trade sectors, he added.
