Kolkata: Women, as well as minority and economically backward candidates appearing for railway recruitment exams will soon be exempted from postal order charges, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee said Saturday.
“We’ve already taken the decision not to take the postal order fees from women, minority and candidates belonging to economically backward section of our society who would appear in the railway examinations.
“I’ve seen in my life that there are many candidates who cannot appear in examinations just because of the high postal order fees,” Banerjee told a Bengali television channel, Star Ananda, in an interview.
“We’ll implement that in the railways soon,” she said, adding, “I’ll be glad if all the government departments take up this initiative and stop charging postal order fees from women, minority and economically challenged candidates.”
