The two former ministers were remanded to ED custody for 10 days by a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court Thursday. They were taken to Ranchi Sadar hospital from Birsa Munda central jail where their medical check up was conducted.

After they were found fit, the ED officials took the jailed ex-ministers into their custody and took them to Patna by service flight of private Air Alliance.

The Enforcement Directorate officials had interrogated Rai and Ekka on foreign transactions through hawala, and moved the PMLA court Tuesday to seek their remand.

Both Rai and Ekka are in judicial custody since Aug 17 this year. They had surrendered in a vigilance court after non-bailable warrants were issued against them in June this year.

The vigilance department has already submitted chargesheets against Rai and Ekka for amassing wealth beyond their known sources of income. In the chargesheet, the vigilance department said Ekka owns assets of Rs.6.67 crore and Rai assets of Rs.1.61 crore – more than their known sources of income.
