New Delhi : The Indian government Friday made it clear that it would not under any circumstances enter into any dialogue with the extreme left-wing rebels or Naxals until they give up arms and violence.
“No talks until Naxals abjure violence,” Indian Home Minister P. Chidambaram said while addressing a function organized by a paramilitary force.
Claiming that the Naxal violence has been proving to be costly for the country, the Indian home minister said: “India is going through a difficult phase of internal security, but we will overcome the challenges.”
His statement came in the aftermath of Naxals’ latest declaration that “there is no question of laying down arms”.
In fact, rebel leader Kishanji Thursday said that surrendering arms should not be a precondition for talks with the government.
On the contrary, he demanded that the government withdraw all forces from the Naxal-infested states first.
