The police had asked the court for his custody to get more evidences in the case of the murders committed. Mohan Kumar is a teacher at Kanyana in Bantwal taluk. He has reportedly feigned love with women aged 22-35 years and killed them giving cyanide. Reports suggest the man had married three times. He has reportedly divorced his first wife and is living currently with his second and third wives at Uppala and Deralakatte, respectively.

When young women began to be found missing, certain media in the state had attributed it to the acts of the so-called ‘love jihad’. The campaign against ‘love jihad’ was intensified when 22-year old Anitha from Barimaru was found missing. But the police investigation into the case led to the culprit.

Police have reportedly seized cyanide tablets, mobile phones and jewellery from the culprit.
