More than 5,000 AGP supporters, led by its president Chandra Mohan Patowary, marched through the city thoroughfares, shouting anti-government slogans.

“The Congress-led government under Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has miserably failed to check price rise of essentials. Instead of trying to control rise in prices, the chief minister is busy trying to shield traders,” the AGP president said.

The protest caused the traffic to go haywire in Guwahati city.

“We shall intensify our protest against the government’s inaction and inability to check spiraling price-rise,” former chief minister and AGP leader Prafulla Kumar Mahanta said.

A protest meeting was held near the state secretariat where top AGP leaders lashed out at the government for failing to control price rise of essentials.
