Vijay Bank net up 36 percent in second quarter

Bangalore : State-run Vijaya Bank posted a net profit of Rs.108 crore for the second quarter this fiscal as against Rs.79 crore earned in the like period last fiscal, registering a 36 percent growth year-on-year (YoY).

In a regulatory filing, the Bangalore-based bank Thursday said its total income for the quarter under review increased Rs.1,457 crore YoY.

Other income increased to Rs.120 crore from Rs.75 crore, largely due to a steep jump in trading profit during the quarter to Rs.32 crore from Rs.3 crore a year ago.

Operating profit, however, grew a robust 55 percent to Rs.234 crore from Rs.150 crore in the corresponding quarter last fiscal, while net interest income increased 35 percent.

“This is the fifth successive quarter in which we have clocked strong numbers in net interest income,” bank chairman and managing director Albert Tauro told reporters later.
