Kabeer was caught early morning on Sunday. Rumours about his terror links began to spread at that time itself. Armed police forces were deployed all over the airport. Media persons could not take his photo. It was said that he was in the list of the lookout notice issued by the IB. Then news came that he had involvement in the Delhi blast. By evening the police ‘found’ him involved in Bangalore and Kozhikode blasts also. By nine at night, news came out that Kabeer was innocent and that he was not the one in the list of IB. But the police authorities have not yet spoken of his innocence. However, his family and friends have strongly denied the allegation that Kabeer had any terrorist links.

Kabeer is the youngest son of Syed and Fathima living in Wayanadu in northern Kerala. Family and friends fondly call him ‘Kunhooti’. Kabeer stopped his studies when he was in seventh standard due to financial constraints at home. He learnt driving and became an auto rikshaw driver. One of his brothers sent him a driver’s visa. Kabeer got his ticket to Kuwait ready by last Friday. His brother Naseer and travel agent also went with Kabeer to Thiruvananthapuram airport. There were no hurdles for him to get into the plane. The plane was in the runway when the police informed that a man in IB’s lookout notice was there in it.

Kabeer was reportedly interrogated by the officials of the IB and RAW for about 10 hours but no evidence of terror links was got. Reports suggest that the police had mistaken him to another man of the same name. Kabeer is known to be an activist of the Muslim League. There are reportedly no cases registered against him in the police stations in Wayanad.
