The hyena is reported to be afflicted with rabies. The hyena has wreaked havoc in half a dozen villages situated in Angada block on the outskirts of Ranchi, officials said.

The permission to kill the animal was granted on the request of forest officials.

“We have accepted the request to kill the hyena which has bitten around ten people,” said Principal Chief Conservator of Forests A.K. Singh.

In the last one and half months this is the second time that hyenas have created havoc in villages in the area.

Earlier, a hyena had bitten 21 people of Lali village in Namkom block of Ranchi. Six people died due to the hyena bite. Angry villagers later killed the hyena.

Health department officials say that anti rabies injections have been administered to all the victims who have approached the primary health centre situated in Angada block.
