New Delhi: A week after a top official of the Union Home Ministry carelessly said that the President-forwarded petition on Batla House encounter had gone missing and the petitioners were free to do what they could, the same ministry has informed Azamgarh-based Association for Welfare, Medical, Educational and Legal Assistance (AWMELA), the petitioner, that the petition has been traced.
Mr. J.P. Sharma, an official in the Home Ministry, has informed AWMELA that he has taken a print-out of the petition and will send it to the Union Territory of Delhi.
In the petition two weeks back AWMELA had demanded judicial probe into the Batla House encounter and constitution of a fast-track court for disposal of the terror cases in which dozens of Azamgarh youths have been made accused. As each of them is facing several dozen cases spreading in several thousand page charge sheets, the normal judicial process will eat their life before the case reaches natural conclusion.
