Vijayakant and his supporters will fast from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.

DMDK cadres are travelling to Delhi from different parts of Tamil Nadu to participate in the fast.

Speaking to reporters here Monday, Vijayakant condemned the central and the Tamil Nadu governments for being “silent spectators to the killings of Sri Lankan Tamils” by the island nation’s army under the guise of war.

Meanwhile, the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu has asked for citizenship to thousands of Sri Lankan refugees living in the state for the past many years.

The party passed a resolution to this effect last week, stating there were over 100,000 Sri Lankan refugees living in Tamil Nadu since 1984 both in refugee camps and elsewhere.

The DMK has urged the state government to hold talks with the centre for granting the Sri Lankan refugees Indian citizenship under the Citizenship Act and other relevant laws.
