Beijing : India and China should work together to face global problems, India’s External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna said here Tuesday while stressing that the “true test of our maturity is how well we handle our problems”.
Krishna, who reached here Monday for a four-day visit, was addressing a gathering at the China Institute of International Studies (CIIS).
Speaking on ‘India and China in the 21st Century World’, the minister encouraged the two nations to work together in facing global problems.
He also warned of outstanding issues between China and India even as the relationship between the two countries forged ahead, Global Times reported.
“The true test of our maturity is how well we handle our problems. Even on an issue like the unresolved boundary question that is often the subject of media speculation, it is not always appreciated that considerable progress has actually been made,” Krishna was quoted as saying.
He added: “The government of India and a large section of the people in India believe that India and China, who share so much which is in common between our two countries should work together and try to move much closer together so as to make an impact on global affairs.”
Discussing the anti-China mood in Indian media last year, Krishna said the Indian media was independent and articulate and could at times be extremely critical.
He added that the India-China relationship would be dictated not by the media but by pronouncements made by the government in parliament.
Krishna, who is here till Thursday, will participate in a series of events celebrating the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and India.
