New Delhi : The India-US Financial and Economic Partnership was today jointly launched by the Finance Minister, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee and the visiting American Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner in New Delhi Tuesday.
The partnership is aimed at strengthening the bilateral engagement and understanding on macro-economic financial sector and infrastructure- related issues.
“The partnership will unleash the energy and enterprise of the people”, said Mukherjee in his opening remarks.
He said that it will make the relationship between the two nations more vibrant and help in addressing global challenges.
Meanwhile, the US Treasury Secretary said that the deepening of ties between India and the Unites States is critical to the broader global effort to develop a framework for a strong, sustainable and balanced growth.
He said, this will facilitate more trade, investment and creation of jobs in the two countries.
Earlier, Mr. Tim Geithner, who began a two-day visit to India today, met the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh.
The vice chairman of the Federal Reserve, Donald Kohn, and other U.S. officials also are on the two-day visit aimed at deepening ties with India.
On Wednesday, Geithner is due to travel to India’s financial capital, Mumbai, and meet with Indian entrepreneurs and chief executives of leading companies.
