London : French police have launched an investigation to trace the bloggers behind the rumours that French President Nicolas Sarkozy and wife Carla Bruni were involved in relationships outside their marriage.
The news came a day after French president’s chief communications adviser, Pierre Charon, suggested Sarkozy could have fallen foul of a “sort of organised plot with financial movements.”
Sarkozy’s lawyer, Thierry Herzog, had revealed that he did not exclude the possibility the allegations of “totally unfounded liaisons” had been planted in a bid to take down the couple, reports telegraph.co.uk.
The investigation was opened based on a complaint filed by the weekly newspaper Journal du Dimanche, BBC news reported. A blog on the papers web site said both the president and his wife, a former top model, were involved in relationships.
Judicial police are handling the investigation, the prosecutor’s office said after a complaint was filed for the “fraudulous introduction of information in a computer system,” which is against the law in France.
