Shimla : Hundreds of activists of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) were arrested across Himachal Pradesh Thursday while protesting rise in prices of essential commodities, police said.
Towns like Shimla, Mandi and Hamirpur where the party’s student wing, the Student Federation of India (SFI) has a presence, were affected due to the stir.
However, no major incident of violence was reported from the state.
“More than 250 people were arrested in Shimla town for violence,” Superintendent of Police R.M. Sharma told IANS.
He said the commuters were worst affected as protesters blocked most of the roads.
CPI-M state secretariat member Tikender Panwar said that the protest was successful in the state.
