Kolkata: Brazilian Jose Ramirez Barreto missed a penalty as Mohun Bagan drew 1-1 with Goa’s Salgaocar SC in an I-League match at the Salt Lake Stadium here Saturday.
After an unproductive first half, Edeh Chidi put Mohun Bagan ahead before Salgaocar striker Keita Mandjou drew level.
Bagan’s goal came in the 62nd minute when a Marcos Pereira flag kick saw Chidi defy a muscle pull to nod home.
The scoreline became even in the 76th minute with Rocus Lamare essaying a well-measured through for Mandjou, who scored off a rasping right footer.
Seven minutes later, Mohun Bagan got the easiest of chances to score.
Referee P. Bikramjit awarded a penalty to the city outfit after Salgaocar goalkeeper Kalyan Choubey brought down Chidi inside the box.
There was utter disbelief among the Mohun Bagan fans as the celebrated striker’s shot landed straight into Choubey’s lap.
The game seldom rose to any height with the rivals failing to add punch to their attacks.
However, Bagan were distinctly unlucky before the halftime whistle as Marcos Pereira’s corner saw Rakesh Masih head straight into the crosspiece, off Choubey’s gloves.
After 19 games, Mohun Bagan have now collected 26 points, while Salgaocar are on 22 from 20 matches.
