“More than three months have passed and no action has been taken in the video CD, in which the sitting BJP MP, Virender Kashyap, was seen accepting bribe from a private party for helping it in securing permission for setting up an educational institution in the state,” state Congress chief Kaul Singh Thakur told reporters here after submitting the memorandum.

“When the matter was raised during the budget session in the assembly, the chief minister defended Kashyap and gave him a clean chit,” he said, adding that the CD has not even been sent to the forensic laboratory for examination.

The video CD was part of a set of three CDs circulated in the state in January this year. The other two CDs, that were audio, allegedly have Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal directing vigilance chief D.S. Manhas to tap the phones of union Steel Minister Virbhadra Singh and his wife Pratibha Singh.

On the forensic examination of two audio CDs, Thakur said: “The government has sent the audio CDs to two different forensic laboratories, including the state forensic lab in Gujarat… It had adopted different yardsticks in seeking forensic reports in respect of such CDs from the laboratories in various cases.”

He also questioned the authenticity of a Gujarat-based government forensic laboratory’s report that, he said, helped to “exonerate” Dhumal in the audio CD controversy.

He demanding a CBI probe against all senior leaders figuring in three CDs.
