“Let’s collaborate on innovation. Let’s partner on infrastructure. Let’s jointly develop clean, plentiful and diverse supplies of energy and bring efficiencies and productivity,” Thomas J. Donohue said, addressing the US-India Business Council (USIBC) meeting here.

Donohue, who is US Chamber of Commerce president, also said the private sector should lead the collaboration.

“It’s time to start writing the next chapter in the positive US-India commercial relationship with the private sectors in both countries leading the way,” he said, adding that there had never been a better time and opportunity to lift US-India trade and investment relations to a whole new level.

Donohue asked governments of both countries to put in place the right policies for business to flourish.

“We must speak forcefully while respectfully to our governments in order to achieve the policy tools we need to expand trade and commerce. We must inform elected officials and citizens about the importance of free enterprise, with open trade and capital markets and reasonable level of taxation and regulation,” he added.
