New Delhi: After all democratic means of protest for a judicial probe into the Batla House encounter failed to convince the government, Jamia Nagar residents now have sat on an indefinite hunger strike to press the demand. The strike is the latest in the series of fresh intensified protests following the disclosure of the revealing autopsy report of the two Azamgarh youths killed in the shootout in September 2008.
The indefinite hunger strike that began on the eve of the concluding Budget Session of Parliament entered the 3rd day toady. Around 20 people are sitting on the hunger strike at Batla House Chowk, some 400 meters from the L-18 flat, where the encounter took place on 19th September 2008. The strike is orgainsed under the banner of Batla House ‘Encounter’ Insaf Committee.
Committee’s Convener and local leader, Amantullah Khan while talking to TCN said, “We will continue this hunger strike until our demand is met”. “Our demand is very clear— judicial probe into Batla House ‘Encounter’ case”, he affirms. He also says, “If authorities do not take notice and institute the probe, we will move to Jantar Mantar on the Parliament Street and continue our protest”.
