The rally will culminate in a march to parliament. The party is protesting against the food policies of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.

This will be the biggest mass rally of the party under the leadership of its president Nitin Gadkari, who assumed office in December last year. The rally will be addressed by senior party leaders, including L.K. Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, and Rajnath Singh besides Gadkari, BJP sources said.

Having set a target of mobilising 10 lakh people, the BJP workers from across the country have been making preparations for the rally for some weeks.

The rally is the culmination of protests held by the party in various states against increase in prices of essential commodities.

Party leaders have blamed food price hike on the wrong policies of the government.

They alleged that food stocks were rotting due to poor storage and prices were going up despite government claims of good production. They said that sugar had been exported at almost a third of the price at which it was being imported.

Gadkari had earlier this month posed fourteen questions to prime minister concerning the price rise.
