Sirsa (Haryana) : An alert 12-year-old girl raised a commotion and got a large crowd around her in this Haryana town when she realised that four of her relatives, including two women, were planning to sell her off for Rs.50,000. The four have been arrested, police said Monday.
The girl, Palo, the daughter of Lal Singh, resident of Jiwan Nagar, complained to the police that her relatives were planning to sell her.
A spokesman of the police department said Monday that the arrested people have been identified as Surjit Singh, Hira Singh, Pooja and Manju, all residents of Sirsa town and nearby areas, 300 km from Chandigarh.
However, the main accused, Lakha Singh, managed to escape.
He said that during interrogation of the accused, it was revealed that Palo was to be sold to Lakha Singh for Rs.50,000. The accused Surjit Singh and Hira Singh are the uncle and maternal uncle, respectively, of the girl. Pooja and Manju are also her relatives.
The official said that the girl was brought to Rania town from Sirsa on the pretext of purchasing clothes and other items. Suspecting that something was wrong, the girl started shouting for help and a large number of people gathered around her. The police were called and the accused nabbed.
