Gul Wazir and his wife reportedly travelled to Pakistan to resolve a dispute over their daughter’s wedding and were gunned down in Salehana village in Nowshera province, Sky News reported.

Wazir worked as a taxi driver and lived in Alum Rock area of Birmingham.

West Midlands Police confirmed the deaths, adding that an inquiry is being carried out by Pakistani authorities.

Wazir’s daughter was reportedly due to marry a man in Pakistan. She later decided to call off the wedding, which led her parents to try to resolve the dispute.

A man, apparently the bridegroom, went crazy and shot them, a witness said. He also shot their son, who was wounded but survived and is in hospital in Pakistan.

Muslim member of parliament from Birmingham Khalid Mahmood has condemned the murder.

“I’m very disappointed and shocked by this act. Honour killing is absolutely absurd in this day and age,” he said.
