The decision was taken at a meeting of the state cabinet held here Tuesday. Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda chaired the meeting.

At present, entertainment duty at a rate of 25 per cent is being levied on clubs in Haryana under the Punjab Entertainment Duty Act, 1955.

A state government spokesman said that the exemption would be available only for charges being paid by sportspersons themselves and not for others who are being admitted to clubs for any purpose other than playing themselves.

Admission fee being collected from persons who have been admitted to entertain themselves by witnessing any sport being played there would not qualify for exemption from payment of entertainment duty, he added.
