The skies opened up around 8 a.m. and, within an hour, many roads were water logged, creating problems for commuters on the first day of the week.

Jams were reported from across the city and vehicle movement was slow at Ring Road, DND flyover, Andheria Mod, Munirka, Laxmi Nagar, Ashram crossing, Mehrauli-Badarpur Road and Mathura Road. Traffic was also moving slowly on NH 8, connecting Gurgaon to Delhi.

“There was a long traffic jam from Palam to Moti Bagh and it took me an hour to cover the distance which otherwise takes 15 minutes,” said Ram Singh, a government employee.

Delhi has been receiving heavy showers from the last few days. “The rains have led to pot holes on several roads. This further slows down the traffic,” said a traffic police officer.

The met office have forecast more rains during the day Monday. It predicted “generally cloudy sky, one or two spells of drizzle and heavy rains in few pockets of the city”.

The city has received 645.1 mm of rainfall this monsoon, 32 percent more than the average.
